Not sure if I should be excited to frustrated, but our good friends at FB is now competing with google and yahoo and bringing us e-mail services too.
Unfortunately I have no hope that this is actually going to be a good thing (look at FB's photo service). For sure, I'm expecting that I am NOT going to be able to access this account via POP or IMAP (which google supports) or be able to support attachments or forward my e-mails to another account.

I am going to go on a limb and predict that they will allow me to forward e-mails from other accounts to FB.
